In Memoriam

Though our hearts are heavy and filled with sadness today, our message should not be one of despair, but one of hope, love, and celebration. Anyone who had the good fortune of spending time with David can attest to his wit and good humor, which he embodied. He loved to laugh and more importantly he loved to make others laugh…a job he always seemed to accomplish with ease. He was the type of person who lived his life to the fullest, and took advantage of each and every minute. These were traits that dominated David’s personality and while we mourn the loss of such a great friend, we should not lose sight of these ideals which David found so important. He would want us to continue living our lives in the same manner he did. He would want us to laugh again. Rather than mourn his death, he would want us to celebrate his life. In keeping with that spirit, I recall all of the things that David did to make us laugh, especially his often failed attempts at telling the “Gorilla Joke” which he could never seem to quite get right.
I’m going to miss you dearly chum, though you have left me with a lifetime of memories that I will cherish forever.
May your spirit flourish in all of us.

Aunque hoy nuestros corazones están apesadumbrados y llenos de tristeza, nuestro mensaje no debiera ser de desesperación, sino de esperanza, amor y celebración. Todos los que tuvimos la buena fortuna de compartir nuestras vidas con David pueden dar fé de su ingenio y buen sentido del humor, que eran parte de su ser. A él le encantaba reír y más importante aún, le encantaba hacer reír a otros…. una labor que siempre pareció cumplir con mucho agrado. Era David el tipo de persona que vivió su vida con intensidad, y disfrutó todos y cada minuto de su vida. Estos eran los aspectos que dominaban la personalidad de David y mientras lloramos la perdida de tan gran amigo, no debiéramos perder de vista aquellos ideales que para David eran tan importantes. El querría que continuáramos viviendo nuestras vidas de la misma manera que él lo hizo. El querría que volvieramos a reír. Más que llorar su muerte, el quisiera que celebráramos su vida. Y en ese espíritu, recuerdo todas las cosas que David hizo para hacernos reír, especialmente sus intentos a menudo fallidos al contarnos el “Chiste del Gorila” .
Te voy a extrañar querido amigo, aunque me has dejado toda una vida llena de recuerdos que atesoraré por siempre.
Que tu espíritu florezca en todos nosotros .
